Gary Hamel: Session 4, Live via Satellite,

|
"Yesterday's success has never mattered less. Today's success has never been more fragile. Tomorrow has never been more uncertain. And the courage to lead the kind of change that it takes to survive - or, even more important, to win - in this world has never been in such short supply."
- Gary Hamel |
Hamel is listed as one of the 20th century's 25 most influential business thinkers by the Journal of Business Strategy. The Economist labels Gary "the world's reigning strategy guru." He is on the faculty of the London Business School where he is Visiting Professor of Strategic and International Management and is the founder and Chairman of the hugely successful Silicon Valley consulting firm Strategos.
As the author of concepts such as "strategic intent," "core competence," "corporate imagination" and "industry revolution," Gary has changed the way leaders think about strategy and management in many of the world's most successful companies.
Hamel is also a best selling author. His landmark books Leading the Revolution and Competing for the Future (with C.K. Prahalad) have appeared on every management best-seller list and have been translated into more than 20 languages. Industry revolutionaries like Richard Branson and Michael Dell have described the book as the essential guide to business innovation.

"Revolutionaries in the new economy are those leaders and companies willing to change the strategies that once made them great. Gary Hamel's clear and powerful blueprint for radical innovation is eye-opening for any business."
- Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO, Dell |

Hamel also advises national leaders on matters of innovation policy, entrepreneurship and industrial competitiveness. He is one of the world's most sought-after management speakers whose message is direct, clear and provocative.
Since 1985, Gary has authored 15 articles in the Harvard Business Review and is the most reprinted author in the Reviews history. Four of his articles have received the prestigious McKinsey prize for excellence, a feat unmatched by any other management author.
However Hamel is no armchair adviser. He practices what he preaches. For the past decade he has been advising companies as diverse as Nokia, Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Royal Dutch/Shell, 3M, IBM and Microsoft on his rule-breaking strategies that have helped create billions of dollars in new wealth.
For example, under Hamel's direction, Royal Dutch/Shell has found a way to spur innovation in weekly, companywide brainstorming sessions called ''Game Changers'' that have resulted in more than 320 revenue-producing ideas, including one that helped Shell find some 30 million new barrels of oil in Gabon last year.

"Conventional thinking is doomed. The winners are the innovators who are making bold thinking an everyday part of doing business." - Gary Hamel
Why are his ideas so vital to South African Business Leaders in these times? Hamel's mission is to help business leaders make innovation a way of life. Put differently, to make management innovation a habit of a South African business champion. He warns that to lock up innovation in a corner of the company is to limit the organisations potential to create the future.
He is passionate about solving the world's toughest business problem: How to help business and large public sector institutions become capable of continuous, crisis-free renewal. His belief is that the most important business issue of our time is finding a way to build companies where innovation is both radical and systemic.
His message comes directly from his efforts at the London Business School to build the world's first "Management Innovation Lab." Pioneering work, in which progressive companies and world renowned management scholars work together to co-create "tomorrow's best practices" today. The goal: To dramatically accelerate the evolution of management knowledge and practice.
This remarkable book is a practical guide to developing and sustaining a focus on business concept innovation, which can help you to transform the rules of competition in your industry, profoundly alter customer expectations and help you to generate new sources of wealth for you and your company. www.innovationtools.com
